"I love color and I love to wire-wrap . . .especially necklaces that are "drip low and are feminine. I also like necklaces that can be worn with faded blue jeans, casual work attire or to an elegant, 'candlelight' affair.
My favorite precious stone is Tourmaline because of the plethora of colors it NATURALLY comes in. I am not really big on treated stones- but I will use them when called for. I wanted to create a necklace that reminded me of a garden . . . hence- "The MODULAR Garden Necklace"! I started out by grouping faceted, AAA, Tourmaline hexagons in every color I could get my hands on with olive green faceted pearls for contrast. Then I added new and vintage glass leaves in assorted colors. I used a ton of seed beads to make the Tourmaline, pearls and leaves pop out! After a week- I had the base of the necklace done (step one)- but it needed more. That's when it hit me to make a removable piece that one could choose to wear or not. I call this the modular piece (mp), as it allows one to wear the components five different ways. Three of them are shown- the necklace w/o the mp, the necklace with the mp hooked on, the mp alone as a long brooch for a tee-shirt, blouse, jacket or on a pair of jeans, or the mp hooked onto the adjustable chain drop in the back to give it a fuller look. Each way of wearing this "modular necklace" is fun and stunning. And it resembles a garden! I like it when I come close to hitting what's in my head . . .it doesn't always work that way! JFYI: There's approximately 42 carats of Tourmaline on the necklace (left)! I mentioned the pearls, but not the Iolite, Sunstone, Amethyst, Garnet and Carnelian! To further make the colors "pop out"- I dipped the entire necklace in Liver of Sulfer- giving the SS a titanium sort of look. Countless wraps and hundreds of beads later . . . I must say it was worth it! If you would like to see more of or purchase any of my work . . .which is not limited to jewelry . . .please email me at writeback.orelse2@verizon.net . I do many custom orders for those hard-to-match outfits/dresses; and a full line of wedding/special occasion accessories including hand painted (waterproofed for carrying flowers in) satin purses (many soft with 3-D floral designs), jewelry, and stationary- handcrafted using the finest papers available and many 3-D (using a special technique). My business partner (Jessica Michelson-Berger) is an accomplished Tromp L'oeil artist . . .and does the most delicious and phenomenal theme cakes and linens to match! Imagine my dismay when I got a bowl of salad for my last birthday instead of a cake because she forgot to make one! It certainly looked like salad- tomatoes and Romaine lettuce- croutons . . . IT WAS A CAKE!! I was less than a foot away from it- and couldn't tell! Our business is "themed events"- you pick the theme- and with our help- we all create your dream wedding or special occasion party! However- we do individual pieces, as well- you need not order an entire party. And it's a lot of fun for all to work together to create YOUR vision! Thanks for looking- and please let either Jessica or myself know if we at m.o.t.h.Collectible Designs (my own two hands) can be of assistance to you in the future!" |
